Guiding Principles

01 Consistency beats volume. One episode weekly, without fail.
02 Build in sequence, not in parallel. Each phase unlocks the next.
03 Protect your capacity. Sustainable effort over bursts.

Non-negotiable prerequisites. Nothing in Phase 1 works without these. Do not skip ahead. Do not do these in parallel with Phase 1 actions. Foundation first, always.

The relationship between the two: NERY the artist gives Beat By Beat international credibility — RBMA, Boiler Room, Lefto support, label releases. Beat By Beat keeps NERY visible and culturally active between releases. They are one identity, two faces. The show is not a side project. It is part of the same artistic practice. Both must be referenced together in every media kit and pitch.

Identity — Confirmed

Handle Situation

nerymusic is taken on Instagram — keep @nerymusic1. The `1` is not ideal but don't move to something worse. Clean handles already secured: nerymusic on Bandcamp ✓, Mixcloud ✓, Linktree ✓. To create: YouTube @beatbybeatradio, Substack beatbybeat.substack.com, Ko-fi ko-fi.com/beatbybeat. Update Linktree with all new platforms once live. Remove Mediafire public link from Linktree — it becomes Ko-fi Digger exclusive.

🎨
Branding — Two Versions

Logo Strategy

Full version (with Rádio Oxigénio): legitimate credibility in Lisboa context. Keep for FM materials, local press, broadcaster contexts. The XFM/Voxx/Oxigénio lineage makes this name meaningful.

Clean version (without broadcaster): for international contexts — Mixcloud, YouTube, Ko-fi, Substack, Spotify artist profile, international media kit. Commission when budget allows (~€50-100). Don't let this block Phase 1.

📦
Assets

Gather Everything

One folder: all episode audio files + tracklists + both logo versions + both bios (show bio + artist bio) + all release links (Spotify, Bandcamp, Mixcloud, Podbean). Restrict Mediafire archive — remove from public Linktree, keep the link only for Ko-fi Digger posts. Bookmark: stream.oxigenio.fm — check every Friday during your show slot for live listener count.

Two Bios — Both Needed, Both in English

Show Bio — For Mixcloud, YouTube, Substack, Ko-fi
"Beat By Beat is a weekly music radio show by NERY — broadcast every Friday on Rádio Oxigénio 102.6FM Lisboa and streaming internationally at oxigenio.fm. Running since 2017, the show moves through jazz, electronic music, hip-hop and everything in between — música sem etiqueta. Produced from Ericeira, Portugal, Beat By Beat has accumulated nearly 500,000 minutes of listening time across 30+ countries."
Artist Bio — For Spotify, Bandcamp, Press, Media Kit
"NERY is a Lisbon-born producer, DJ and radio host. His debut album 33 (Madluv/Kudos, 2016, mastered by Pete Norman) was supported by Lefto, Jay Scarlett, Alex Barck and Chris Read. He has performed at RBMA Boiler Room Lisboa, Lux Frágil, Rock in Rio, Lisboa Electrónica and Mojo Club Hamburg. A Red Bull Music Academy participant, he has hosted Beat By Beat on Rádio Oxigénio since 2017 — a weekly music show with listeners in 30+ countries. He lives and works in Ericeira, Portugal."

Asset Checklist

Weeks 1–6

Infrastructure

↳ Restart & build the foundations

Five parallel tracks, each building your presence from the ground up. Do these in the order listed — Mixcloud first, then Substack, then YouTube, then Audius, then Ko-fi. Each one sets up the next.

Week 1 — Every Friday, permanently after

1.1 — Mixcloud: Restart Weekly Upload

This is the non-negotiable. Every Friday, without exception. 20–30 minutes per week.

01

Export your English version after the live show

You already do this. Keep doing it. Same process as before.

02

Title format

Beat By Beat #296 — Artist / Artist / Artist — use 3-4 of the most recognisable artists from the episode. This is your SEO.

03

Full tracklist in description

Numbered. Every track. This is your community's most-wanted content and your search discovery engine.

04

Tags

Every genre represented + key artist names + "radio show" + "jazz" + "electronic" + "hip-hop" + "Ericeira" + "Portugal".

05

Manage the 10-episode limit

When uploading #297, delete the oldest live episode. Keep the 10 most recent always live. Archive goes to YouTube, not here.

⚠ Do NOT upload archive episodes to Mixcloud. Current only.
Week 2 — Before your next episode goes live

1.2 — Substack: Launch Your Newsletter

Your owned audience. The only one no platform can take from you. 15–20 minutes per week to write. 30 minutes initial setup.

Setup (one time)

  • Go to substack.com — create free account
  • Publication name: Beat By Beat — Música Sem Etiqueta
  • URL: beatbybeat.substack.com (or closest available)
  • Profile image: your square logo
  • Write welcome email: one paragraph, explain what subscribers receive and when, link to Mixcloud

Weekly Email Structure — Every Friday Post-Show

SUBJECT: Beat By Beat #296 — [most interesting artist or theme]
[Opening paragraph — 3-5 sentences in your voice. What was the mood? Why did you open with that track? Write like you're talking to a friend.]

1.3 — YouTube: Archive Engine

Your full archive, searchable by every artist name you've ever played. Free, unlimited, permanent. 30 min initial setup. 30-45 min per archive upload (mostly upload time).

How to Create the Video File (Free)

Static image (your square logo, white on black) + audio file = MP4. Use iMovie, QuickTime, DaVinci Resolve (free), or Kapwing online (no software needed). Export as MP4.

Content ID claims: accept them. Don't dispute unless fully blocked (rare for your genre).

Week 3–4 — Set up and forget

1.4 — Audius: Cold Storage

Copyright-safe backup archive. Decentralised — no Content ID, no takedowns. Tiny active audience for your genre, but a free, permanent repository. Create account at audius.co, upload full archive, link from bio. Don't invest energy here beyond initial upload. This is a filing cabinet, not a stage.

Week 3–4 — After 2 Substack issues are live

1.5 — Ko-fi: Launch Your Support Page

Why not immediately: a Ko-fi page pointing to a dormant Mixcloud looks abandoned. Launch once the show is visibly active again.

🔍 Digger

Everything above, plus: NERY Digging — a private Spotify playlist of what NERY is listening to right now, before it ever reaches the show. Updated whenever, never goes public. The crate before the show. Also: recent back catalogue (6–12 months of English episodes via private Mediafire links), guest mix episodes before YouTube, occasional exclusive DJ set (30-day exclusivity before Bandcamp), extended curatorial show notes.

→ Inside NERY's head before anyone else

HOW THE PLAYLISTS + ARCHIVE WORK Beat By Beat Goodies — public Spotify playlist, updated monthly, tracks played on the show. Free for everyone. Discovery tool. Always public, never gated.

NERY Digging — private Spotify playlist, Ko-fi Diggers only, never goes public. What NERY is listening to right now — before it reaches the show or not. The crate before the show. Updated freely, no fixed schedule.

Episode archive — Mixcloud: 10 most recent (rotating). YouTube: deep archive 2+ years back, free to all. Ko-fi Digger: the gap — last 6–12 months of English episodes via private Mediafire links, nowhere else publicly.

Fees: 0% on one-time tips. 5% on monthly memberships. + Stripe/PayPal ~2.9% + €0.30. No monthly platform fee.

Week 4 — After Ko-fi is live. One time only.

1.6 — Direct Outreach to Superfans

Your most important single action for early Ko-fi conversion. Go to Mixcloud stats → top 20 listeners by minutes. Send each one a personal message — not copy-paste, genuine.

"Hey [username] — I noticed you've been listening to Beat By Beat for a long time and it genuinely means a lot. The show is back weekly and I've just launched a Ko-fi to keep it going and go deeper. Thought you should know first, before anyone else. [ko-fi link]. Either way — thank you for listening. NERY"

Send 5 per day over 4 days. Not all at once. Adjust message based on responses. 8-12 conversions = €24-€84/month from one afternoon of work.

Weeks 2–8

Social Media

↳ Runs in parallel with Phase 1

Instagram is your primary social platform. Four content pillars, a clear posting schedule, maximum 4 posts per week. Quality and consistency over volume. Your curatorial voice, made visible.

Four Content Pillars

📡
Friday afternoon — ~3-5pm

Pillar 1 — Pre-Show Teaser

Before the show airs. Simple static image or story: your logo + episode number + 3 artist names. No caption needed beyond "Tonight, 9pm, Rádio Oxigénio 102.6FM + oxigenio.fm." Warms up both the FM and stream audience. Post it after you've delivered the show to the station — it's already done, you know what's in it.

📋
Monday — repeat broadcast day

Pillar 2 — Tracklist + Upload Post

Your anchor weekly content. Full tracklist as image, carousel, or in caption. One line about the episode mood. Link to Mixcloud in bio. Also post the Substack newsletter link. This aligns with the Monday repeat broadcast — people who missed Friday can catch it now. This is your highest-value regular content for your core audience.

🎵
Tuesday

Pillar 3 — Track of the Week / Insistência

One track. Artist name, track title, 2-3 sentences on why you played it or why it won't leave your head. No camera — text over a simple visual, or a plain caption with a strong image. When it's your monthly Insistência, frame it as such: "This track has been in every show I've made this month. The insistência." Your regular listeners recognise this from the broadcast — it becomes a signature format externally too.

🗄
Thursday — every 2 weeks

Pillar 4 — Archive Flashback

One episode from the archive that aged well. An artist who blew up since you played them. A timely theme. "We played [Artist] back in [year], before [context]. Still one of my favourite episodes." Drives traffic to your YouTube archive. Signals depth and history to new followers who don't know the show has been running since 2017.

Maximum 3-4 posts per week. Minimum 2 (Friday pre-show + Monday tracklist). Monday is your primary anchor post — you have more time, and it aligns with the repeat broadcast. Missing Tuesday is fine. Missing Friday or Monday is not.

Archived Posts — What to Restore

Unarchive gradually over 2-3 weeks, not all at once. Restore only posts consistent with the current identity — show-related, music-related, aesthetically coherent. Leave archived anything too personal or off-brand.

Visual Formats — No Camera Required

Model: Somewhere Soul (@somewhere_soul, 941K followers) — same philosophy as Música Sem Etiqueta, built entirely without showing their face. Four formats that work for your format and constraints.

🎴
Tuesday — highest engagement

Track Cards

Artist press photo as background. Artist name large, track title below. One sentence — your curatorial voice. Dark overlay, Beat By Beat logo small in corner. Tag the artist and label on every post. A repost from Brownswood, Ninja Tune, or Alfa Mist reaches thousands of exactly your audience. This is your primary organic growth mechanism.

📜
Monday — core anchor

Tracklist Carousel

Full tracklist as scrollable carousel or clean image. Artist name, track title, label — minimal formatting. Saveable, shareable. Your most requested content. Post Monday to align with repeat broadcast. This is your highest-value regular post for core listeners.

🎧
Monthly

Playlist Posts

Beat By Beat Goodies update. Simple graphic: playlist name, track count, one line. Link in bio. Gets saved heavily — people use it as a listening list. Always public — this is a discovery tool, not an exclusive. Ko-fi Diggers have something better: the private NERY Digging playlist — the crate before the show, never available to the public.

💬
Weekly — editorial voice

Quote / Philosophy Posts

One precise observation about music, a track, or a moment. Dark background, logo small. No face. "Música Sem Etiqueta" as the filter. These build your identity as a curator with a point of view, not just a playlist machine. Distinctive, non-generic, shareable. The Insistência framing works here too — "This track has been in every show I have made this month."

X / Twitter (@nerymusicone) — Real-Time Layer

Keep the handle and keep the strategy simple. X is your immediate, conversational layer. Labels, artists and music journalists still use it. Tagging generates real engagement — you already proved this. Total active time: 30-40 min/week, mostly during and after the show.

Months 2–4

Monetisation

↳ Activate once infrastructure is running

By this point: weekly Mixcloud uploads running, Substack newsletter with growing list, YouTube archive building, Ko-fi live, Instagram posting consistently. Now you convert presence into income.

Month 2, Week 1

3.1 — Ko-fi First Push

01

Announce on Mixcloud

Post on your channel page. Link directly to Ko-fi.

02

Mention on air

During your Friday show — Portuguese version is fine. Those listeners can also support you.

03

Permanent Substack footer

Add Ko-fi link to every newsletter going forward.

04

Dedicated Instagram post

Not a begging post — a value post. "Here's what Digger tier supporters get access to." Make it about what they receive, not what you need.

Month 3–4 — Once you have 150+ free subscribers

3.2 — Substack Paid Tier

Why wait: launching paid with 50 subscribers gets you 2 paid. Launching with 200 gets you 20. The free list must grow first.

Paid tier: €5/month or €50/year. Access to full tracklist immediately after show (before public post) + occasional deeper curatorial notes on specific episodes. Separate from Ko-fi — different people use different platforms.

Month 4–6 — Not before these prerequisites

3.3 — Sponsorship: First Pitch

Prerequisites Before Approaching Anyone

  • 8+ consecutive weekly Mixcloud uploads — proves restart is real and sustained
  • Substack with 100+ subscribers
  • YouTube with 20+ episodes live
  • Ko-fi with at least 10 paying supporters
  • Instagram posting consistently for 2+ months

Your Media Kit (2-page PDF)

Page 2What you offer: 30-second sponsor read at episode opening + social mention + newsletter logo + Mixcloud description credit. Pricing: €200-€400/month for 4-episode run. Contact email.

Target Sponsors — In Order of Approachability

Months 4–12

Growth

↳ Leverage what's been built

Once the infrastructure is stable and monetisation is running, these moves expand your reach, activate dormant relationships, and create cultural moments around the show.

🎙
Month 2–3 — One-time setup

4.1 — Spotify Artist Profile: Activate It

You have 101 Spotify followers and a real release catalogue. Your artist profile is dormant. Actions: update your Spotify for Artists bio with the current artist bio. Add your current city (Ericeira). Add links to Instagram and Mixcloud. Pin Beat By Beat Goodies playlist to your profile — it's already there, just unpinned. This costs nothing and makes your Spotify profile work as a discovery surface for both your music and your show.

📋
Monthly — already doing this, just formalise it

4.2 — Beat By Beat Goodies Playlist

Two playlists, two clear purposes.

Beat By Beat Goodies — public, monthly, tracks played on last month's shows. Always free, always public. Resume updates immediately. Update description with current links (Substack, Ko-fi). Update Linktree with current playlist link.

NERY Digging — private, Ko-fi Diggers only, never public. What you're listening to right now — pre-show, unfiltered, personal. The crate before the show. Update it freely when you find something worth sharing. Share the private link via Ko-fi supporter-only post each time you update it.

🎉
Plan now — upcoming milestone

4.3 — Milestone Episode #350

You're at #346 on Podbean. Episode #350 is weeks away. Plan it now: special episode, guest, archive context. Longer Substack piece on 8+ years of Beat By Beat. Pitch to Blitz and Rimas e Batidas — "Lisboa show reaches episode 350, 8 years of independent music broadcasting." Announce Ko-fi publicly as part of this moment. This is your best organic press opportunity in years.

🎟
Month 8–12 — Once digital is stable

4.4 — Live Event

One listening party/DJ set per year. Lisboa record shop (Flur, Carbono, Louie Louie) or Ericeira boutique venue. Ticket €5-10, capacity 50-80. You curate and play live — the same voice that makes the show work, in a room. Promoted through Beat By Beat channels and NERY artist channels simultaneously. One well-executed event builds more than three mediocre ones.

🎵
When energy and inspiration allow

4.5 — New Music as NERY

Your last production was the Stereossauro remix (2023) and the Dead End collaboration. You don't need to be in release mode constantly — but even one new track or remix per year keeps the artist profile active and gives the show a story to tell. When you do release: Beat By Beat is the perfect promotional vehicle. You play your own track on the show, the newsletter covers it, the Goodies playlist features it. The show and the artist career cross-promote naturally.

💿
When you produce an exclusive set

4.6 — Bandcamp: Exclusive DJ Sets

When you produce an occasional exclusive DJ set for Ko-fi Diggers, give it 30-day exclusivity there, then release to Bandcamp as pay-what-you-want. Your existing Bandcamp (nerymusic.bandcamp.com) already has your release catalogue — it should also be the home for these exclusive sets once they go public. This keeps your Bandcamp active between label releases.

📀
Long-term — start the list now

4.7 — Beat By Beat Compilation Vol. 1

You have 346 episodes of documented taste. A curated compilation — 15-20 tracks you have championed on the show, sequenced as a coherent journey — is a real product. Model: Somewhere Soul Rituals Vol. 1 (RE:WARM Records, July 2025, vinyl + digital). You can self-release via nerymusic.bandcamp.com or pursue a label relationship. Action now: start a private list called "Beat By Beat: Música Sem Etiqueta Vol. 1" — artists you have played who would fit, who represent the show's sound world. Build it quietly. When the infrastructure is running and Ko-fi has supporters, this becomes your first major product moment and press story.

The Combined Media Kit Pitch

What you say to a sponsor, partner, or press contact: "Beat By Beat is a weekly music radio show by NERY — a Lisbon-born producer and DJ whose debut album was supported by Lefto, Jay Scarlett and Alex Barck, and who has performed at RBMA Boiler Room Lisboa, Lux Frágil and Rock in Rio. The show has aired every Friday on Rádio Oxigénio since 2017 — part of the XFM/Voxx/Oxigénio lineage of independent Lisboa broadcasting — and has accumulated nearly 500,000 minutes of listening time from an audience in 30+ countries, averaging 22+ minutes per listen. The show is produced from Ericeira, Portugal's world surf reserve."

That is not a small radio show host asking for a favour. That is a credentialled artist with an international audience, a specific cultural identity, and a documentable track record. Lead with the full picture every time.

↳ Not promises — honest scenarios

Conservative, realistic ranges based on consistent but imperfect execution. The upper end requires all phases working. The lower end is achievable with just Ko-fi and basic consistency. Health setbacks may affect timelines — that's accounted for.

Don'ts

↳ These are traps

Common mistakes that will waste your limited energy, dilute your brand, or damage your credibility with the audience you've spent 8 years building.

Launch everything in week 1Sequence matters. Foundation before monetisation. Rushing creates an incomplete, inconsistent impression.

Post an "I'm back" announcementJust be back. The work speaks. Apology posts signal insecurity and remind people you were gone.

Upload all archive to Mixcloud at onceYou have 10 slots. Use them for current episodes only. Archive goes to YouTube and Audius.

Approach sponsors before 8 weeks of consistencyYou'll waste the opportunity. A dormant profile kills any pitch before it lands.

Post in Portuguese on Beat By Beat profilesThe international English identity must be consistent. Your PT audience has Oxigénio and Podbean.

Launch paid Substack before 150 free subscribersThe conversion rate won't justify the complexity at that scale.

Create a TikTok accountYour format and audience are not there. It would cost energy for zero return.

Pay for Instagram promotionNot yet. Organic first. Paid amplification only works once you have content that converts.

Months 6–12

International

↳ Expand reach without losing identity

Three parallel tracks: Worldwide FM residency pitch, multi-station broadcast model, and Somewhere Soul collaboration. Each requires a different approach and different timing. None of them before month 6. All of them after the infrastructure is visibly active.

Month 6 — After 6 months of consistent uploads

5.1 — Worldwide FM Residency Pitch

What it is: Worldwide FM curates and champions underground music, stories and culture from around the world, supporting music cultures that originate from local, independent and community-driven moments. That is a precise description of Beat By Beat. The fit is real. They are actively taking new monthly residencies as of early 2026. The door is open.

What you need before pitching: 6 months of consecutive weekly Mixcloud uploads. Active Substack with 100+ subscribers. YouTube archive with 20+ episodes. Ko-fi live. These are your proof of consistency — without them the pitch lands on nobody.

Format to pitch: Monthly show, not weekly. Beat By Beat is already weekly on Oxigénio — WWFM gets a monthly episode, produced specifically for their audience. Same sound world, same curatorial identity, but framed for an international listener who doesn't know you yet. This keeps your workload manageable and gives WWFM something exclusive.

The Pitch — Full Draft

My name is NERY. I'm a Lisbon-born producer, DJ and radio host. Since 2017 I've hosted Beat By Beat on Rádio Oxigénio — an independent Lisboa station that continues the XFM/Rádio Voxx lineage of non-commercial music broadcasting in Portugal going back to 1993.

Beat By Beat moves through jazz, electronic music, hip-hop and everything between — música sem etiqueta (music without labels). The show has accumulated nearly 500,000 minutes of listening time on Mixcloud, with an audience across 30+ countries averaging 22+ minutes per listen. Our listeners are in Amsterdam, Berlin, Paris, San Jose, Tokyo — the same cities that listen to Worldwide FM.

As an artist, my debut album 33 (Madluv/Kudos, 2016) was supported by Lefto, Jay Scarlett and Alex Barck. I've performed at RBMA Boiler Room Lisboa, Lux Frágil, Rock in Rio and Lisboa Electrónica, and participated in the Red Bull Music Academy.

I'd like to propose a monthly residency on Worldwide FM — one hour, produced specifically for your audience, rooted in the same Ericeira-based curatorial practice that's been running for 8 years. I can provide a demo episode, press materials and Mixcloud archive on request.

Where to Send It

Contact form at worldwidefm.net/contact — select "Partnership" or "General Enquiry." Also DM their Instagram @worldwidefm with a one-line intro and ask for the right person to send a proposal to. Two-channel approach increases response rate. Follow up once after 3 weeks if no response. Do not follow up a second time.

What You Gain

  • Access to Worldwide FM's ~400,000 monthly listeners — your exact audience profile
  • International broadcast credential that strengthens every future pitch
  • Content appears in WWFM archive — permanent discoverability
  • Association with Gilles Peterson's curatorial world — significant cultural credibility
  • Monthly episode forces a slightly elevated production standard — good discipline

What It Costs You

One extra episode per month produced specifically for WWFM — same format as Beat By Beat but introduced for an international audience. Roughly 2-3 extra hours per month. No payment in either direction at this stage. The return is reach, not money.

Month 8 — After WWFM pitch has been sent

5.2 — Multi-Station Broadcast Model

The Lefto model decoded: Think Outside The Kiosk broadcasts simultaneously on Kiosk Radio and The Lot Radio. One show, two stations, double the reach. No extra production. This is a content partnership — you give them a show, they give you audience. Nobody pays anybody.

Critical distinction from Lefto: Beat By Beat is not trying to be Think Outside The Kiosk. Lefto's show is built around his DJ identity and discovery platform. Beat By Beat has its own format, its own 8-year history, its own curatorial voice rooted in Lisboa and Ericeira. The multi-station model is a distribution strategy, not an identity copy. Your show stays your show — it just airs in more places.

Target Stations — In Order

The Pitch for Partner Stations — Template

Subject: Beat By Beat — Content Partnership Proposal Hi,

I'm NERY, host of Beat By Beat — a weekly music radio show running since 2017 on Rádio Oxigénio in Lisboa (part of the XFM/Rádio Voxx independent broadcasting lineage). The show moves through jazz, electronic, hip-hop — música sem etiqueta.

We've built a Mixcloud audience across 30+ countries — Amsterdam, Berlin, Paris, New York, Tokyo — with nearly 500,000 minutes of listening time and a 22-minute average listen time per play. Our audience overlaps directly with yours.

I'd like to explore a content partnership — Beat By Beat episodes available to [Station Name] for broadcast, in exchange for visibility to your audience. No exclusivity. No payment required on either side. One show, more reach for both of us.

I'm happy to share a demo episode, our Mixcloud archive and press materials. Let me know if this is worth a conversation.

NERY | beatbybeatradioshow@gmail.com | mixcloud.com/nerymusic
Month 5-6 — Parallel track, independent of station pitches

5.3 — Somewhere Soul Collaboration

What you gain
  • → Access to 941K Instagram followers, 12K Substack subscribers
  • → Perfectly aligned audience — same music world
  • → A mention from Josh = more Substack/Ko-fi conversions than months of organic growth
  • → International credibility — UK curator endorsement
  • → Their Portugal audience (they run club nights, want to grow here)
What they gain
  • → National FM broadcast credit — real press material
  • → Portuguese/Lisboa audience they don't currently reach
  • → XFM/Voxx/Oxigénio cultural story — compelling Substack material
  • → Ericeira connection — Portugal is on their radar for future events
  • → Peer collaboration with a credentialled RBMA/Boiler Room artist

Is it dangerous? No. Different markets, different commercial relationships, no competitive overlap. You're not trying to become Somewhere Soul. They're UK-based Spotify/Apple Music curator. You're Portuguese radio with an international Mixcloud presence. The collaboration adds dimension to both of you.

The Collaboration Format

Josh records a 30-minute guest mix for Beat By Beat. It airs within your show on Oxigénio. You upload the full episode to Mixcloud. You both post about it. That's it. Simple, clean, zero ongoing commitment.

The Pitch — Full Draft

DM / Email to Josh Mason-Quinn (@somewhere_soul) Hi Josh — I'm NERY, a Lisbon-born producer and DJ. I've been hosting Beat By Beat since 2017 on Rádio Oxigénio — an independent Lisboa station that carries the XFM/Rádio Voxx legacy of non-commercial music broadcasting in Portugal. The show moves through jazz, electronic, hip-hop — the same territory you're working in.

I've been following Somewhere Soul for a while. "Artistry before algorithms" is exactly the philosophy behind Música Sem Etiqueta. I think our audiences would love to know about each other.

Would you be open to recording a 30-minute guest mix for Beat By Beat? It would air on Rádio Oxigénio (national FM + international stream) and go up on Mixcloud. I'd feature you properly in the Substack newsletter and across socials. Happy to return the gesture however works for you.

NERY | beatbybeatradioshow@gmail.com

Send via Instagram DM first. If no response in 2 weeks, email. Do not follow up more than once on each channel. The message is good — if it doesn't land, the timing wasn't right. Try again in 6 months.

What Needs to Be True Before You Send This

  • Your Mixcloud is active — at least 8 consecutive weekly uploads visible
  • Your Substack is live and has at least 3 issues published
  • Your Instagram has been posting consistently for at least 6 weeks
  • Your YouTube archive has at least 10 episodes
  • Your Ko-fi page is live

Without this, there is nowhere for their audience to land. The collaboration's value is wasted.

Week 8 (14-20 Jul)Review Month 1 metrics: Mixcloud plays, Substack subscribers, YouTube views, Ko-fi supporters. Adjust where needed. Continue rhythm.
Months 3–4 — August–September 2026
SPONSORSHIP PREP + SUBSTACK GROWTH
MonthKey Tasks
AugustBuild media kit PDF (2 pages): logo, combined NERY+BBB credentials, key numbers, audience geography, average listen time, what you offer sponsors, pricing (€200-400/month). Identify 5 target sponsors — brands you actually use or respect, cultural/lifestyle alignment. Do not pitch yet.
AugustIf Substack has 150+ subscribers: activate paid tier at €5/month or €50/year. Announce to existing free subscribers first.
SeptemberSend first sponsor pitch — one brand, the most aligned one. Subject: "Beat By Beat x [Brand] — partnership proposal." 6-8 sentences max. Attach media kit. Follow up once after 10 days.
SeptemberContinue weekly rhythm without deviation. By now: 16 consecutive Mixcloud uploads, 16 Substack issues, 30+ YouTube episodes, Ko-fi with paying supporters.
Months 5–6 — October–November 2026
INTERNATIONAL OUTREACH BEGINS
MonthKey Tasks
OctoberSend Somewhere Soul DM to Josh Mason-Quinn (@somewhere_soul). One message. Wait 2 weeks before following up by email.
OctoberSend Worldwide FM pitch via contact form + Instagram DM. Follow up once after 3 weeks if no response.
NovemberSend The Lot Radio partnership pitch. Their contact form or email. Reference your US listener data — San Jose, San Francisco already in your Mixcloud stats.
NovemberIf Somewhere Soul responds positively: plan the episode. Record it for a December or January air date. Brief them on format: 30-minute guest mix, you introduce and close, one episode.
Months 7–12 — December 2026 – May 2027
ESTABLISH + LIVE EVENT + COMPILATION LIST
PeriodKey Tasks
Dec–JanIf WWFM or The Lot responds: produce first international episode. If Somewhere Soul collaboration is confirmed: air the episode, coordinate social posts, share with both audiences. Send Kiosk Radio pitch if not already done.
Jan–Feb 2027Plan first live event — one listening party in Lisboa or Ericeira. Identify venue (record shop, boutique bar). Set date 6-8 weeks out. Ticket price €5-10. Promote through all channels for 4 weeks before.
Mar–Apr 2027Build the Beat By Beat Compilation Vol. 1 track list — private, working document. 15-20 tracks played on the show over the years that still hold up. Begin conversations with artists about licensing if self-releasing. Or identify potential label partners.
May 202712-month review: Mixcloud followers, Substack subscribers, YouTube subscribers, Ko-fi income, sponsor deals active, international station relationships. Adjust Phase 5 targets based on what's working.

The single most
important thing
is showing up.

Everything in this plan fails if the weekly Friday upload doesn't happen. Not the newsletter. Not the Ko-fi. Not Instagram. Not the sponsors. The show, uploaded, in English, every week, without exception. That is the foundation. Everything else is built on top of it.
